John Lovitz at the Improv

John_Lovitz-2010-001_75.jpg

This week I shot funny man Jon Lovitz. Jon being short for Johnathan Still a very funny entertainer. Great show! Lovitz was a special engagement at the Improv Comedy Club located at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

"Jon" Lovitz (born July 21, 1957) is an American actor, comedian and singer. He is best known for serving as a cast member of Saturday Night Live between 1985 to 1990 and voicing Jay Sherman on The Critic..

Saturday Night Live

Lovitz was a cast member of Saturday Night Live from 1985 to 1990. He later said in an interview for the book Live From New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live that his time on SNL was the most memorable in his career. He went from having no money to being offered a $500,000 movie contract. He was nominated for an Emmy his first two years on Saturday Night Live. One of his most notable SNL characters was "Tommy Flanagan, The Pathological Liar" who used the old catch phrase, "Yeah! That's the ticket!" as he, after visible effort, finally finished constructing his latest lie. Some of his other recurring characters included Master Thespian, Tonto, Mephistopheles, and Michael Dukakis. In a 1986 episode of Saturday Night Live he played a virgin Trekkie, who was scripted to hang his head when asked by William Shatner if he had ever kissed a girl.

Hanukkah Harry, one of his most memorable roles, cast him in 1989 as a Jewish contemporary of Santa Claus who lives on Mount Sinai and travels the globe with a cart flown by three donkeys to give bland gifts to Jewish boys and girls. Harry is asked to fill in when Santa falls ill on Christmas Eve.

Jo Koy - Palm Beach Improv

JO_KOY-iMPORV-_088.jpg

This week I shot Jo Koy at the Palm Beach Improv Comedy Club. It is a great club and managed by professionals who respect their business, staff and talent.

This is a funny man. Watch him take off!

In 2006, Koy was part of Carlos Mencia’s “Punisher Tour” performing stand-up comedy in front of fans filling 10,000-seat arenas across the country. He also has performed on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, Chelsea Lately, Last Call with Carson Daly and Comedy Central Presents.

Born in Tacoma , a suburb of Washington, Koy has been performing and entertaining audiences since he was young child. Koy credits his mother for his comedic and acting talents. From an early age, his mother encouraged him and his sister (a singer in Las Vegas ) to take part in school talent shows and impromptu performances in front of family and friends. Koy is now far removed from the young-aspiring comedian who officially started comedy in 1994 on an open mic-night in a Las Vegas coffee house.

During the past ten years, he has starred in several TV stand-up specials from BET Comic View to Jamie Foxx Presents: Laffapalooza! He has won the Showtime at the Apollo, has performed in front of troops in the USO Tour, can be seen on various VH1 I Love the 70’s, 80, 90’s and New Millenium episodes, AMP’D Mobile Phone commercials and received a second invite to the Montreal comedy festival – Just for Laughs, the series for which he was awarded Canada’s prestigious Gemini Award. He tours the comedy club circuits nationwide and performs internationally. Koy is a regular guest at Chelsea Handler’s roundtable discussion on E!’s Chelsea Lately and is currently filming his TV show for Comedy Central.

John Pinette

John_pinette-2010001_43.jpg

This week... John Pinette at the Improv at City Place, Palm Beach. The best show ever!

Pinette is top caliber comedian and performer. I could barely kept the camera steady for laughing so hard! Here is some bio on Pinette. Where ever you are... you have to go see him.

Shortly after beginning his new career as a stand-up comic, he began touring comedy clubs all across the country, and got his big break when he was asked to tour with Frank Sinatra[citation needed]. Since then, John has also become a regular guest on The Tonight Show and The View. [2]

Pinette has also enjoyed a long acting career in both television and film. Duets, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Dear God, starring Greg Kinnear, and Junior, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger are just a few of John’s film credits. He was a series regular on the hit series Parker Lewis Can't Lose, and starred as the car-jack victim in the final episode of Seinfeld. Pinette was also seen in the summer of 2004 as the lovable Bumpo in Artisan Entertainment’s The Punisher, starring Thomas Jane and John Travolta.[1]

Pinette was named Stand-Up Comedian of the Year by the American Comedy Awards in 1999 and has received a Gemini Award nomination for his televised performance at the Montreal Comedy Festival in 2000.[1]

In 2004, Pinette joined the touring cast of the musical Hairspray in the role of Edna Turnblad where he replaced Bruce Vilanch.[3][4] He later went on to again replace Bruce Vilanch in the Broadway production in 2005, and continued in the role until May 28, 2006.[5][6]. In his 2006 concert I'm Starvin'.

The one and only Jackie Mason

Jackie_Mason-Jan-2020-Improv_Hollywood-135.jpg

The other night I shot the one and only Jackie Mason. Born in 1936 - this legendary comic is still working.

Mason's standup rings of comedy of another era and is directed mainly to Jewish audiences. I brought a couple of my friends who lacked the Jewish cultural experience and I can say, they were pretty lost with many of his jokes. You have to be familiar with Jewish culture to get Mason's punch lines!

Although Mason is not my kind of comic I hold his comic spirit in great reverance. Still working and making people laugh!
